REMZen was started to bring together a community of people interested in exploring and understanding the symbolic, archetypal, individual, and meaningful power of dreams. The simple act of writing and sharing dreams with others creates meaning for both the user and reader. In general, people give very little thought to their dreams, allowing their dreams to disappear back into their unconscious minds. Writing your dreams, however, assigns meaning to them, bringing them to life in the conscious mind. We believe (along with leading dream researchers) that dreams are a link to the unconscious mind and contain insight, wisdom, and creativity. Unfortunately, many books on dream analysis assign dogmatic and static meanings to symbols in dreams and try to generalize and categorize people by their dreams. REMZen, on the other hand, takes a different, user-centered approach that focuses on the unique and individual qualities of each person's dreams. We believe that the best way to analyze your dreams is not by looking up dream symbols in a book but by journaling them and forming your own personal dream narratives that are shared with others.

REMZen allows users to create personal dream libraries that can be shared or can remain confidential. Both members and visitors can search the shared dreams by keyword, dream theme, and even by a name of a person involved in the dream. The site also provides a customizable profile, a dream store, various methods to discuss dreams, and much more. This personal approach allows individuals to analyze and understand their dreams through the act of writing and sharing. Further, this approach empowers individuals to define themselves and their dreams. As a community, we are open to all individuals and all dreams, in the process of understanding our dreams and ourselves. We call this our "unconscious community."
